“
This controversial book says that the way we educate millions of American children alienates students from a fundamental pleasure in learning, and that pleasure in learning is essential to real engagement, creativity, intellectual entrepreneurship, and a well-lived life.
Based on almost a decade of intensive autobiographical interviews with over 100 “ordinary” students, teachers, and parents, Wounded By School describes some of the dilemmas of those in school now. Students talk about intensive boredom and daily disengagement, while knowing that school “matters” more than ever.  Students and teachers describe a grinding lack of meaning in their work, combined with intensive labeling, tracking and shrink-wrapping of learners based on cursory tests and poor understanding of many kinds of minds.”

From Peter Turner in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada:

My 12’ X16’ cabin on Echo Lake, where I have lived since December of 2005.  No running water and outdoor toilet (ok, it’s a little nippy at -40 C) but electricity, a propane stove for heat, high speed internet and a wireless LAN.  I have a spectacular view of a small lake, and mountains behind.  In summer, a family of loons nest every year, and in winter ice skating, snowshoeing and cross country skiing can be spectacular!

Woot woot Canada

This came from an interesting article in Esquire.  Obviously, those over 65 will, on average, have a much higher net worth than those under 35; what’s interesting is how the gap is growing. Are individuals today who are under 35 just lazy and entitled, or is there something else at work here?. Whatever your opinion may be, it’s an interesting thought to ponder.

Cycletropic Animation of the Day: Central Saint Martins student Katy Beveridge created these neat paper zoetrope bicycle rims as part of her 3td year dissertation project.

She says she was seeking to answer the question of “whether it was possible to film animation in realtime.”

Happily, it is.

Can’t get my apps to show up on my iPhone 4. Filled the 10 pages and so new apps wouldn’t show up. Now that I have made room, I don’t know how to bring them back. I can find them in my search bar but not on my screen. Suggestions ?

It’s very rich, reminds me of chocolate. It’s a creamy texture sometimes influenced by other flavors or spices. Sometime you want more and sometimes it’s too much. This wonderful life. Wonderful wonderful.
